Trade when Wall Street is closed

An xStock can change hands at 3 a.m. on a Sunday, but the issuer only creates and redeems it while the stock's home market is open. Here is what that means for the price you get.

Illustrative: a stock closes at $100.00 on Friday. News breaks on Saturday and its xStock trades at $103.00 on Sunday. On Monday the stock opens at $102.50, and the token follows once issuance and redemption resume.

Step by step

  1. Know who sets the price

When the issuer is open for that xStock, market makers can create or redeem tokens, which keeps prices close to the stock. At weekends and on the home market's holidays, only each venue's buyers and sellers set it.

  2. Check the gap

Compare the xStock's price with the stock's last close before you trade. A gap can be news priced in early, or just a thin market.

  3. Limit the price, size down

Use a limit price or tight slippage, and split large orders. Liquidity is thinner at weekends.

  4. Avoid corporate-action windows

Stay out of the minutes around a multiplier change, when venues are asked to pause; the API and the token show when it takes effect, usually around midnight UTC.

  5. Know your venue's hours

Kraken trades xStocks 24/5. On-chain venues such as Solana apps and Hyperliquid run 24/7.
