SpaceX stock (SPCX): lock-up dates, how to buy it and the SPACEX token
SpaceX is public: its Class A shares have traded on Nasdaq as SPCX since 12 June 2026, so it is an ordinary listed stock. The SPACEX token from PreStocks was a pre-IPO proxy and is now converting. This page covers the IPO facts, the lock-up dates and what holders of the token must do.
Is SpaceX public?
Yes. SpaceX priced its IPO on 11 June 2026 at $135 a share, selling 555.6 million shares to raise $75 billion, the largest IPO on record. The fixed price valued the company at $1.77 trillion, and trading began on Friday 12 June, CNBC reported.[1]
| Item | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Ticker and venues | SPCX, on Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas[2] |
| IPO price | $135.00 a share, fixed with no range[2][1] |
| Shares offered | 555,555,555 Class A shares, or 638,888,888 if the underwriters used their full extra-share option[2] |
| Lead banks | Goldman Sachs as lead, then Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase, CNBC reported[1] |
| First day, 12 Jun 2026 | Opened at $150, high $176.52, closed near $161 for a value of about $2.1 trillion, CNBC reported[3] |
| Later price | A closing high of $201.80 on the third day, then down about a quarter by 9 Jul, CNBC reported[10]; around $147 when Reuters wrote on 28 Sep 2026[4] |
| Control | Musk holds about 82.4% of the voting power; SpaceX is a controlled company under Nasdaq rules[2] |
How people buy SPCX
SPCX is an ordinary listed stock, so buying it means a brokerage account that offers U.S. stocks where you live. Which brokers do depends on your country, so check your own broker's list. In the IPO itself, some shares were offered to retail investors through selling-group platforms including Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Robinhood, SoFi and E*TRADE.[2]
Tokenized versions also exist. PreStocks names SPCXx, an xStock on Solana that tracks SPCX, as the conversion target for its SPACEX token, though its notice lets holders swap into any token.[5][9] The xStocks guide explains what an xStock is. A tokenized stock is not the same thing as a share held through a broker, so read how the one you pick works first.
Lock-up dates: when insiders can sell
A lock-up bars insiders from selling for a set period after an IPO. SpaceX's final prospectus sets staged releases for most pre-IPO holders and a longer lock-up for Musk and certain other holders. These are the dates it lists.[2]
| When | What the prospectus says may be sold |
|---|---|
| 20 Aug, 9 Sep, 24 Sep, 9 Oct and 24 Oct 2026 | Up to an additional 7% of the shares under the 180-day lock-up on each date (70, 90, 105, 120 and 135 days after the prospectus) |
| After the quarter ended 30 Sep 2026 is reported | Up to an additional 28% of those shares, from the second full trading day after the results |
| 8 Dec 2026 | All shares under the 180-day lock-up, 180 days after the prospectus |
| 12 Jun 2027 | All of Musk's shares, including Class B shares and options converting to Class A, up to 6.4 billion; the 366th day |
| After the quarter ended 30 Jun 2027 is reported | The remaining shares under the extended lock-up for certain other holders |
The prospectus also sets earlier releases tied to SpaceX's first earnings report and to the share price staying at least 30% above the IPO price. It says the restrictions lasting over a year cover 7.8 billion shares, about 60% of those outstanding, and that Musk's shares have no early release.[2] Lock-up expiries can add shares to the market, which is why traders watch them; they do not predict a price.
SpaceX's numbers, as the IPO filing showed them
CNBC reported from the prospectus that SpaceX's revenue rose 33% to $18.67 billion in 2025 and 15% to $4.69 billion in the first quarter of 2026, with net losses of $4.94 billion in 2025 and $4.28 billion in the quarter. It reported an accumulated deficit of about $41.3 billion since 2002, capital spending of $10.1 billion in the first quarter (of which $7.7 billion was for AI), and that Starlink is the only profitable unit.[1]
What became of the SPACEX token
SPACEX was the PreStocks token for pre-IPO SpaceX. Since the listing its status is converting on 30 Sep 2026, with a 1% transfer fee built into the token.[6] PreStocks says holders must swap it before 23:59 UTC on 12 March 2027, and that it expires worthless after that.[5] PreStocks applied the 5-for-1 split to its display, so wallets that support the extension show five times the balance at a fifth of the price.[7]
PreStocks links an attestation report on the SPACEX token dated 17 June 2026.[8] Step by step: convert SpaceX PreStocks to SPCXx. Why the swap rate and discount move: what happens to a token at an IPO.
And xAI?
SpaceX acquired Elon Musk's xAI in February 2026, bringing its data centers, Grok models and the social network X into the company, CNBC reported.[3] There is no separate xAI stock or IPO. The XAI PreStocks token's conversion into SPACEX is covered in the xAI merger guide.
What to watch next
- Lock-up dates. The 9 and 24 October releases, the days after the next earnings report and 8 December are the next ones in the prospectus.[2]
- The 12 March 2027 deadline if you hold the SPACEX token.[5]
- 12 June 2027, when Musk's own lock-up ends.[2]
