Kalshi stock: is Kalshi public, what is it worth, and what is the KALSHI token?

Kalshi is a private company, so there is no Kalshi stock to buy on an exchange today. Its CEO says an IPO is something it is thinking about, not before 2027. The KALSHI token from PreStocks tracks its price; it is not a share, and trading event contracts on Kalshi's exchange is a different thing.

Is Kalshi public?

No. Kalshi is a private company, so there is no Kalshi stock to buy on an exchange today. On 2 Oct 2026 EDGAR held no registration statement filed by Kalshi itself (other companies' filings mention it), and the SEC's list of company tickers had no Kalshi entry.[5][6]

What Kalshi's CEO has said

In a CNBC interview on 24 June, Mansour said a company with Kalshi's financial profile and growth rate has to have the conversation about going public, and that Kalshi is "basically thinking about it, but obviously, we don't have an answer yet". CoinDesk reported he said any IPO would come no earlier than 2027.[1]

Valuation and funding

Kalshi announced a $1 billion Series F at a $22 billion valuation, led by Coatue with Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, IVP, Paradigm, Morgan Stanley and ARK Invest taking part. In the same announcement Kalshi said institutional trading volume had risen 800% in six months and that its annualized trading volume had grown from $52 billion to $178 billion; those are the company's own figures.[2]

The Financial Times reported in June, citing people familiar, that Kalshi was seeking new capital at about $40 billion, nearly double the Series F valuation, with a deal that could close as soon as the third quarter. Kalshi hadn't responded to CoinDesk's request for comment.[1] Treat that valuation as a report, not a round.

Kalshi runs a designated contract market overseen by the CFTC, and Ohio's and Tennessee's gambling regulators treated its sports contracts as unlicensed betting. On 25 September 2026 a three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit held that Kalshi's sports-event contracts are not "swaps" under federal commodities law and that, even if they were, federal law would not displace Ohio's and Tennessee's gambling rules. It affirmed Ohio's win and vacated an injunction Kalshi had won in Tennessee, Crowdfund Insider reported.[3]

The report says the decision widens a split among appeals courts: the Third Circuit had sided with Kalshi in a New Jersey case, while the Ninth Circuit ruled for Nevada. It also says Kalshi believes the ruling will not withstand further review.[3]

What the KALSHI token is

KALSHI is a PreStocks token on Solana that follows the price of Kalshi's shares. It is not a Kalshi share: PreStocks' FAQ says its tokens confer no ownership, voting, dividend, information or other legal rights.[4] PreStocks says its tokens settle in stablecoins or tokenized public stock rather than by transferring shares, and are backed through holding entities such as SPVs.[7][8]

Owning Kalshi versus trading on Kalshi

Buying the KALSHI token, or Kalshi shares if they ever list, is a bet on the company's value. Trading an event contract on Kalshi's exchange is a bet on an outcome, such as an election or a game, and gives you no stake in the company. They are different products with different risks, and this guide covers only the first.

Other ways people get Kalshi exposure

Some registered funds that hold private stock list Kalshi. ARK Venture Fund (ARKVX) lists it among its holdings at 31 July 2026, and ARK Invest took part in the Series F.[12][2] A fund has its own fees, redemption limits and eligibility rules, so read its documents first.

PreStocks isn't open to everyone: its terms exclude U.S. persons and people in 36 named jurisdictions.[13] This page explains; it doesn't recommend buying or selling anything.

What happens to KALSHI tokens if Kalshi lists

PreStocks says that when a company lists, its token becomes convertible into a tokenized version of the public stock, with up to nine months to convert before the token expires worthless.[4] Kalshi hasn't listed, and PreStocks' Kalshi page showed no IPO or conversion notice on 2 Oct 2026.[9] The one worked example is SpaceX: what happens to a token at an IPO.

What to watch next

  1. The public S-1 on EDGAR. Look for a filing whose filer is Kalshi; plenty of other companies' filings mention it.[5]
  2. The reported round near $40 billion. The Financial Times reported it, Kalshi has not confirmed it.[1]
  3. The appeals. The Sixth Circuit ruling split the courts further, Crowdfund Insider reported, so watch for appeals and for how other circuits rule.[3]
  4. A notice from PreStocks. An IPO or conversion notice would appear on its Kalshi page first.[9]
