PreStocks fees explained: the transfer fee and everything else you pay

How the transfer fee works

PreStocks tokens use Solana's Token-2022 transfer-fee extension. The fee is a percentage of each transfer; the tokens are withheld in the recipient's token account, and only the mint's withdraw authority can collect them.^[1] On PreStocks mints that authority is the issuer's address, and the maximum fee is uncapped.^[2]

So it isn't a trading fee in the usual sense: the token charges it on any transfer, anywhere. PreStocks' terms say token-level fees may apply to every transaction, including on third-party exchanges and pools and between wallets you control, and may leave the recipient with less than was sent.^[3] We checked a live Anthropic swap on 28 Sep 2026: 0.01617194 tokens left the pool and 0.01568678 arrived, exactly 97%.^[4]

The fee today, and how it got here

On 8 September 2026 PreStocks said it was experimenting with non-zero transfer fees, “initially 0.5%”, alongside lower base fees on its official liquidity, with the revenue going to builders, liquidity and more supply.^[5] The mints show what followed:^[2][6]

A mint stores only its two latest fee settings, so earlier rates for the other tokens are no longer visible on-chain. XAI's fee has been 0% since epoch 1043, after its conversion window closed.^[7]

Worked example: $1,000 in and out

Say you swap $1,000 of USDC for a 3% token and the price doesn't move. The pool sends tokens worth $1,000, 3% is withheld, and $970 of tokens arrive. Sell them all and the pool receives 97% of what you send, about $940.90. That's a 5.9% round trip before pool fees, spread and price impact. On SpaceX's 1% fee the same round trip costs about 2%.

Fees you might not expect

• Moving to another wallet costs the fee too. Sending 10 tokens from a hot wallet to a hardware wallet delivers 9.7 on a 3% token.^[3]
• Rewards paid in PreStocks arrive net of the fee. A payout in a PreStocks token is a transfer like any other.^[1]
• Routes can pay it more than once. If a swap passes through a PreStocks token as an intermediate step, that token moves more than once, and every move pays the fee.^[1]
• The fee can change after you buy. The terms say fee changes apply to tokens you already hold.^[3]

How to check the fee before you trade

The fee lives on the mint, so check the mint rather than a web page. Look at both the current fee and the “newer” fee with its starting epoch: Solana applies a change two epochs after it is set, about three days at current speeds, so it's visible before it starts.^[1] The transfer-fee tutorial shows how, on an explorer or with one RPC call.

What PreStocks doesn't charge — and what it may

The FAQ says there are no annual management fees; trading fees come from apps and liquidity providers, and variable fees on conversions or transfers help cover acquisition, selling and processing costs.^[8] The terms list many more fees PreStocks may apply, from minting and redemption fees to performance fees and a share of holding-entity costs, most of them relevant to redemptions.^[3]
